Social metadata

Social sharing review

Review the metadata found on the page and compare the social-card previews below.

Paste a public page URL to check its Open Graph and Twitter/X metadata and preview how the page may look when shared.

Social platforms can cache metadata, crop images differently, or rewrite how a shared link appears. These previews show the metadata currently returned by the page, not a guaranteed final rendering on every platform.

What this checker does

Check how a page is prepared for social sharing

Paste a page URL to inspect its Open Graph and Twitter/X metadata and preview the link card built from those tags.

Open Graph tags control the title, description, image, and page URL commonly used when links are shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, messaging apps, and other platforms.

Twitter/X can use its own card tags and may fall back to Open Graph metadata when dedicated tags are missing.

Good to know

Social platforms can cache older metadata. After changing tags or images, the live platform may not update immediately.

How it works

Check a social preview in three steps

You only need the public page URL.

1

Paste the page URL

Enter the live page you want to inspect.

2

Review the metadata

Check whether the page returns an Open Graph title, description, image, and Twitter/X card data.

3

Compare the previews

Use the Facebook/LinkedIn and X previews to spot missing images, weak titles, or other obvious problems.

Example

Example social-sharing check

Suppose you want to verify a product page before promoting it on social media.

Page URLhttps://example.com/products/classic-shirt
Result

The checker reads the page metadata, reports missing Open Graph or Twitter/X tags, and builds approximate social-card previews from the values it finds.

Social metadata

What makes a useful social card

A useful shared-link preview should quickly explain what the page is and give people a clear visual reason to open it.

Use a clear title

The social title should identify the page without depending on text around the link.

Write a useful description

A concise description can explain the page value before someone clicks.

Provide a suitable image

A strong Open Graph image helps a shared link remain recognizable and visually useful across feeds and messages.

Keep metadata consistent

Open Graph and Twitter/X values should describe the same page and avoid conflicting titles, descriptions, or images.

FAQ

Open Graph checker questions

Common questions about social-sharing metadata and link previews.

What is Open Graph metadata?

Open Graph metadata is a set of HTML meta tags that describe a page title, description, image, URL, and other details for social-sharing previews.

Why can Facebook or LinkedIn show an old image after I change it?

Social platforms often cache link metadata. A page can return the new tags while a platform still temporarily shows a previously cached preview.

Does X require separate metadata?

X supports dedicated card tags such as twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description, and twitter:image. It can also fall back to Open Graph data in some cases.

Is the preview guaranteed to match the final social post?

No. Platforms can crop images, truncate text, cache older metadata, or change their card layouts. The preview is a practical approximation based on the metadata the page currently returns.

What if the checker cannot read the page?

Some sites block automated requests or build metadata only after JavaScript runs. In those cases the checker may not be able to inspect the same content a browser eventually displays.
